What Is Efudix®?

Efudix® (fluorouracil 5%) is a prescription-only topical treatment used to target precancerous and superficial skin conditions, including:

Actinic keratoses

(sun-induced pre-cancerous lesions)

Superficial basal cell carcinoma (BCC)

in select cases

How It Works:

Efudix® interferes with the abnormal growth of precancerous skin cells, causing them to break down and be replaced by new, healthy skin.

How to Use Efudix® Safely

How to Use Efudix® Safely

✔ Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
✔ Gently rub in without excessive massaging.

✔ Continue treatment for the prescribed duration (typically 3 to 4 weeks or as directed).
✔ Avoid applying to healthy skin surrounding the treated area.

Skin Cleansing & Preparation

✔ Wash the treated area with water and a mild, non-soap cleanser (e.g., QV, Cetaphil, Dermaveen).
✔ Avoid regular soap, as it may cause irritation.

 Sensitive Areas to Avoid

❌ Do not apply Efudix® near the eyes, lips, mouth, or nasal creases, as these areas are highly sensitive.

Expected Skin Reactions

✔ Redness, dryness, flaking, and crusting are normal signs that the treatment is working.
✔ The skin may feel irritated or inflamed, particularly in the later stages of treatment.

Moisturising After Treatment

✔ Once the treatment course is complete, apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser (e.g., Cetaphil, Dermaveen, Eucerin, Dermeze) at least three times a day to support skin recovery.

When to Stop Treatment & Seek Medical Advice

Discontinue Efudix® and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

❌ Severe skin reactions – intense burning, blistering, open sores, or extreme pain.
❌ Signs of infection – pus, excessive swelling, spreading redness, or warmth.
❌ Flu-like symptoms – fever, chills, muscle aches, or fatigue.
❌ Allergic reactions – difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or severe rash.
